I am a computational scientist conducting research at a cancer center where I focus on data-driven approaches to understanding and improving cancer outcomes. Most of my professional life unfolds behind a computer, but my sense of balance and purpose comes from being outside.
When I am away from my desk, I am usually on a trail or the road. I enjoy backpacking, bikepacking, trail running, volunteering, and traveling by van with my faithful companion, Revel Rose. Time outdoors is not an escape from my work, but a necessary counterweight that keeps me grounded, curious, and resilient.
Some of my earliest and most formative memories are of family trips in the mountains of North Carolina. Those early experiences instilled a deep appreciation for wild places and the quiet clarity they offer. Although childhood ended and life became busy with graduate school, career-building, and single parenthood, the pull of those landscapes never faded. For many years, adventure became something I postponed, convinced I would return to it “someday.”
This chapter of my life is about choosing not to wait. I now prioritize exploration deliberately and without apology, carving out space for challenge, solitude, and joy. Whether navigating a long trail, a remote backcountry assignment, or a winding road, I am committed to creating a life that honors both intellectual rigor and a deep connection to the natural world.

Some of my most meaningful experiences include spending a summer living in the Gila Wilderness while volunteering as a backcountry ranger, and car camping across Costa Rica—both of which reinforced my belief in slow travel, presence, and learning everyday.
